Queen Truss House

Unitarian Church

Andromeda
For the most part, Andromeda has been on hold these past months while we have worked on other projects. Most recently, however, we are developing the design for one of the residential buildings. The form is a triangular spiral encompassing mixed use housing with a green roof and intermittent pocket parks throughout. Intern Margeaux Fischer has created a model of one of the more compact dwellings, as well as a mass study model of the building itself. Tullio is currently organizing a “Green Team” of consultants in related fields who will work on the project and actually build it in the near future.

Peace Pagoda Community Center Fundraising Continues
Former intern Kirk Jaskoviak has rejoined Tullio to participate in pro bono work for the Peace Pagoda Community Center. Tullio made a recent trip to the Peace Pagoda with intern Jessica Reager to meet with Kato Shonin and Thomas Heineman to review the designs and locate the retreat housing building. Tullio continues to distribute fundraising fliers in an effort to raise the funds necessary for constructing the small complex of buildings.

The Perfect Cape
TIA has completed the design for a sustainable, passive solar house. Construction drawings, specification and catalogs for construction-related products are available for purchase. The house utilizes renewable energy alone; it includes geothermal heating, photovoltaic panels, water columns, and a super-insulated ‘envelope’.

The Queen Truss House
The design and architectural model are complete, as well as some preliminary construction drawings. Intern Josh Payne has just begun a final set of construction drawings that, along with the specifications and products catalogs, will become available this coming winter. The timing is perfect for those individuals planning to build in the Spring of 2010.

Unitarian Church Proposal
Intern Lydia Lovett-Dietrich has built a mass study model of the buildings around the parking lot owned by the church, and we are beginning to consider the most appropriate form for a new building in that area. We will send photos to the church's building committee for their consideration.

Shutesbury Library
This past summer we designed a new library for the town of Shutesbury, MA. An intern from Smith College, Kiersten Mailler, built a scale model of the perfectly sustainable design and created a booklet of the proposal that was mailed to the library staff.

Fine Arts Center, University of MA Amherst
In 1975 we produced an energy study of the UMass Amherst Fine Arts Center in which we recommended several strategies that, in combination, would make the building (a classic energy hog) more sustainable. Finally, after nearly 35 years, the school is more seriously considering adding photovoltaic panels on the extensive south facing roof of the studio. We thank our interns from 1975 and those who more recently developed the study further.

REN: The Architect
More copies of the slightly revised REN, THE ARCHITECT, a novel by Tullio, have just been printed by Tiger Press. It is available at Amherst Books here in town or directly from our studio. Make checks out to T.I.A. for $15 plus $2 for shipping and handling, and we will mail you a copy signed by the author. The money supports our work for non-profits with socially and environmentally responsible aims.

Book In Progress
Principle architect Tullio Inglese is in the process of writing a book titled, Toward A Grand Unified Theory of Architecture: Twelve Principles of Ecological Architecture. Stay posted for progress!
